In the summer of 2023, Chef Naoki and his wife, Yoshimi, took over the ownership of Renga-Tei with a sense of responsibility in continuing to serve old-school Japanese cuisine to the Lincolnwood community.
After operating Renga-Tei for a year, the pair decided to rename the restaurant to Tenjin, a move that felt necessary to make the long-running restaurant their own.
The name Tenjin comes from a thriving neighborhood in Fukuoka on the Japanese island of Kyushu. The area is known for their vibrant food culture that has spread in popularity across Japan — and this is where both Naoki and Yoshimi grew up.
